In “Cross the Tracks and Never Look Back,” Jenna, a young woman, grapples with her desire for adventure and self-discovery, challenging the expectations of her small town as she embarks on a journey to explore the world beyond its borders and write her own story.

JENNA: I’m not staying in this town forever. Not like you. I’m getting out of here. I can’t just stand still while the world moves forward. I’ve got dreams, big ones. Dreams too big for this one road town. I want to see skyscrapers, and oceans, and sunsets on a beach. I want to be challenged. And you never challenged me. You always just sat there, complacent. Everyone in our damn family just sits around, never hoping for something better! (Beat) Call me naive, call me whatever you want, I don’t care anymore! You think I’ll fail? Fine. I’d rather fail tryin’ something than succeed at doing nothing. I’ve gotta try. (Beat) I wanted to leave on good terms, but it’s clear you don’t support me. I just think you’re scared. Scared that I’ll succeed. Scared that I’ll amount to more than you. You shouldn’t be jealous, you should be proud. Isn’t that what a parent’s supposed to be?
