In this monologue from the play, “Apology Tour”, Mona, now married with a kid, has something to say to her ex-boyfriend, Lance.
MONA: Well, it’s good to see you. Charles and Eli say hello. (beat) I just want to say. (beat) Nevermind. It’s just that… I’m sorry how I was when we were together. I was young. Selfish. Probably scared out of my mind that you didn’t really like me. That you wouldn’t make the move for me. That I wasn’t worth it. I know, it’s all water under the… But still. I think about it sometimes, and still, yeah, it bugs me. I know it doesn’t mean much now, but you deserved… deserve better. And I’m sorry you feel lonely now, I do. You’re a catch. Always were. (beat) I don’t mean to make this about my guilt. I mean, I do feel guilty, but this is really my poor attempt to say… you’re special, and it’s taken me a while to realize that, and I’m sorry I’m so dense. But you deserve someone just as special. And I hope you’ll find her soon.
