In this monologue from the play, “From Time to Time”, Evelyn, a woman from the 17th century, speaks to Thomas, a new love connected through a tapestry hung in the same house, hundreds of years apart.
EVELYN: Why did we have to meet now, Thomas? Why couldn’t I have been born when you were, or you born when I was? It’s a cruel trick of fate! I know I should be glad we met, but… It doesn’t seem fair to know you exist and not be able to have you. To walk through gardens that no longer exist in your time, under stars that have long since burned out in your sky. My heart aches with a longing I cannot explain. Is it the strangeness now that makes our bond special? Oh Thomas, I cannot bear to lose you now that I have known you. Hold me one more time. Take me in your arms and kiss me like you did the first time. Tell me everything will be okay. Please, Thomas. Please!
