Stand Tall

December 17, 2023 by James Larson Leave a Comment

A resilient teenage girl, often seen as the nerdy outcast in her high school, gathers the courage to confront her long-time bully, ready to assert her self-worth and challenge the harassment she’s endured.

LISA: Hey. We need to talk. I’ve spent way too long avoiding this, but not anymore. You probably think I’m weak, right? Easy target? Well, guess what? I’m not the scared girl you think you’ve been pushing around.

(She takes a deep breath, her voice steady)

I don’t know why you chose me. Maybe because I’m quiet, or because I’d rather read a book than gossip in the halls. Maybe you thought I’d never stand up to you. But here’s the thing – every day, every snide comment, every laugh at my expense, it’s been building something in me. Not fear. Not anymore. Strength. Courage.

You’ve spent so long trying to make me feel small, but you know what? You’ve only shown how small you are. Bullying doesn’t make you big or important. It just shows everyone that you’re hurting inside, trying to drag others down with you.

I’m not going to sink to your level. I won’t hurl insults or spread rumors. That’s your game, not mine. But I will say this – it stops now. The intimidation, the harassment, all of it. I deserve to walk these halls without fear, and you don’t get to take that away from me.

(She stands a little taller, more confident)

You have your own battles, I get that. We all do. But it’s time you find a different way to fight them. Because I’m not your battleground. I’m stronger than you think, and I’m not alone. We’re all tired of your games.

So, this is me, standing up. Not just for myself, but for everyone who’s ever felt small because of someone like you. We’re not your victims anymore.
