In this monologue from the play, “Steady on the Mat”, Maggie tries to find her zen (and does yoga) during an argument with her husband, George.
MAGGIE: I’m not listening, George. I’m zen right now. I know the car repair bill is high, you’re right. But that’s not my concern right now. Don’t make me have Dr. Kaplan talk to you again. You always wait until the worst moment to discuss things with me. You wake me up at 3am to talk about the toaster breaking. You pass me a note about what we’re wearing to the Henderson’s dinner party while my sister and her fiance are saying “I do” at their wedding. You talk to me now about the car repair bill. Context, George! It’s all about context. And sweetie, I love you, I really do. But this has got to stop. I don’t know who you got such terrible timing from, but it’s affecting our life right now. So as… zen as I’m feeling right now, I’m also a little… pissed! I need my private space, Georgie! Please! Get the f’ck off my yoga mat so I can continue my mindfulness practice!! …Sorry. I… need to take some deep breaths. And you need to leave. Please.
