In this monologue from the play, “Strong Ones”, Reese is confronting their siblings about their reality now that their mom is passed.
REESE: Well mom’s not coming back! That’s not how it works. We’ve gotta figure this out on our own now.
Dad’s a mess. We have to be the strong ones. Us. So either you’re in or you’re out. And before you say you’re out, just know… I’ll do the best I can to keep us together. But I can’t do it alone. I can’t. I need each and every one of you by my side.
We all have to pitch in. Robbie, any money you get from your route, we need to save some of that. Carla, we have to find you a job too. We don’t know what’s gonna happen, but it’ll sure be better with a roof over our head.
With Dad off the deep end, we just… don’t know how this’ll pan out. But please… we have to stick together. We’re all we’ve got now. I believe in us. Do you?
You don’t need to answer me right now. But it’s not like we have much time. If we want to stay together, this is what we have to do. And I know I don’t say it much, but it’s still true… I love you guys.
