In this monologue from the play, “Dead Man’s Bluff”, Frederick is the only one left alive at the end of a murder mystery – and he’s not going down quietly.
FREDERICK: Continue the play? You want me to continue the play?! Everyone’s dead! Dead, dead, dead. Dead as a doornail, whatever that means. And I’m the only one left alive. Which means I’m next! I’ve seen enough horror movies to know what happens. But I’m not supposed to die now! I have a dentist appointment next week. Those things takes weeks to schedule! I had so many dreams I could’ve seen slowly crushed under life’s cruel fate. I could’ve been a banker and made lovely loaves of bread. I could’ve bought stacks of books I’d never read. I could’ve been invited but not really want to go to so many things! AH! So I guess this is near the end. AH! Where the killer closes in. AH! You know, I have an idea! You all have just been sitting watching this happen. Shame on you! One of you needs to take my spot. I’ve been through enough! Which one of you will do it? Come on!
