In this monologue from the play, “Screamin’ Eagle”, Alex tells his friend Josh about his harrowing experience with rollercoasters.
ALEX: I hate rollercoasters, man! They’re bad luck for me, okay? I only went on one, and it was my last time. I was on a date with Jenna, and she wanted to go on the ‘Screamin’ Eagle.’ I’m already sweating bullets, but I can’t back out on a first date. Click, clack, click, clack, all the way up. And you know I hate heights. So I think, ‘This is it, this is how I die.’ So we get to the top, and then plummet down, and my stomach decides it’s had enough. I throw up. On Jenna. On her face. In her mouth. She’s absolutely mortified and disgusted, screaming her head off. And the ride keeps going. Then we’re suddenly upside down in a loop and the ride gets stuck. So we’re there, dangling, covered in my vomit, and trying not to make eye contact. We hung there for twenty minutes. Twenty minutes that felt like an eternity of regret, embarrassment, and wishing for death at that point. So Jenna forgave me, we went on a second date, and now we’re engaged. OF COURSE NOT! She’s never going out with Barf Boy ever again!
